IT'S been a big year for Murwillumbah Show president Jenny Glasby.

Mrs Glasby was awarded the title of Tweed Shire Citizen of the Year by Tweed Shire Council and has continued in her role, for the fifth year, as the show's president.

To honour that commitment and her choice as Citizen of the Year, the show society this year has broken with tradition to ask her to officially open the show.

Local politicians including Labor MP for Richmond and Federal minister for ageing Justine Elliot, National Party state MP for Lismore Thomas George and new Tweed mayor Joan van Lieshout have instead been invited as official spectators at the opening which is taking place at 2pm on Saturday.

Mrs Glasby's pride in the annual show, which this year marks its 108th anniversary, shines through.

"It showcases all the industries of the people the opportunity to show their own talents whether its photography, painting, dance, cooking or whatever," she said. …
