EVEN a double bypass could not keep 69-year-old Rob Brownlee away from walking for more than a day.

The Bilambil Heights resident, who still works full time as a real estate agent, said exercise was essential to maintaining a good quality of life.

"The oldest living member of my family was 103 years old," Mr Brownlee said yesterday.

"Walking daily and staying positive are the key to a long life.

"You should walk preferably every day or every second day for 30 minutes.

"And it should be at a rate so that you start to perspire, get your blood flowing and still be able to hold a conversation."

And that is why the grandfather-of-eight wants to get other residents of the Tweed walking every day as part of the National Heart National Heart Foundation walking program.

The program, which kicked off in May 2007 in Murwillumbah, aims to encourage people to lead more active lives through moderate walking.

There are now two groups each in Murwillumbah and Kingscliff and one in Tweed Heads. …
