Airport May Be Lost to Coast

THE state government has released the potential relocation options for Caloundra Aerodrome, in doing so raising the real prospect of the airport being lost to the Sunshine Coast.

While the study - commissioned in March this year - does not outline a preferred site, it does include the existing Caboolture airport as a possible relocation site.

The other four options are the Bells Creek Road area, Coochin Creek, Donnybrook and the Johnston Road area at Glass House Mountains.

Aerodrome lease-holder Keith Eglen, managing director of the Queensland Aviation Centre, said moving to Caboolture or Donnybrook would force 130-odd highly skilled workers to leave the area.

"You only have to drive down Pathfinder Drive any morning and see the number of cars - any one of those belongs to a highly skilled young person working in a high-tech job," Mr Eglen said.

"My mate next door runs a maintenance business, and that's tripled in size in 10 years. …
