IT seems the Fiji and Papua New Guinea men's police teams aren't the only sides doing a rugby league world cup on a budget.

The players from those sides are bunking down at a backpacker's hostel at Mooloolaba. But compared to the Russian women, they are living like royalty.

The ladies may have come from Russia with love, but they left the cash at home.

With no government support for their side, the trip has been paid for by the players, and to put it nicely, it's a shoestring budget.

Raelene Nisch, the owner of Curves Minyama, can attest to that.

Raelene offered the girls a session in the gym - which they happily accepted - but what she wasn't counting on was paying for taxis to take the team back to its digs.

"It was the least I could do for the girls," she said.

"There's not a lot of support for them in Russia, I don't think they had too much organised as far as training goes. …
