Govt's Graffiti Flip: They'll Join Clean-Up; {Minister Withdraws Charge Threat, Offers Help} {Motorway Graffiti Will Be Removed: Pitt}

THE state government has thrown its support behind local anti-graffiti campaigner Graeme Hall just hours after threatening to charge him.

Main roads minister Warren Pitt warned Mr Hall that he risked being charged if he did not stop removing graffiti from sound barriers lining the Sunshine Motorway.

But by 1.30pm yesterday, Mr Pitt had promised member for Kawana Steve Dickson that Main Roads would remove all graffiti along the motorway.

Mr Pitt also promised the motorway barriers would be kept clean.

Mr Hall, who only started his campaign to rid the Motorway of graffiti on Saturday, hoped the scrawl would vanish within a week and promised to stay away from the barriers if they stayed clean.

He said he was pleased the government appeared to be taking the problem seriously.

"I never expected any of this," he said. "I just went out to paint a fence. I just wanted the job done."

Mr Hall said hundreds of people had pledged money and time towards the cause but asked for emails to stop because the funds may not be needed. …
