INSIDE CITY HALL FORMER Mayor Ken Livingstone was back in hot water last week after admitting he got on a train from Slough to Paddington without paying. He was accused of misleading the public when he first claimed he didn't need a ticket, then he said he was in too much of a rush to buy one. Finally, on Tuesday, he said he had been delayed because someone threw himself or herself under the Tube.

But columnist Carol Malone said it was the first time he mentioned the cause of his delay in the week and a half and she was not convinced.
