IN reply to the nonsensical comments from EJ of Gateshead concerning the royal family and implying Prince William and Prince Harry know which side their bread is buttered on. I have to say to this person that I am sure Prince William and Prince Harry would give up all the butter and bread in the world if it would bring back their mother.

IS it not the time that ministers and MPs in all parties should not be allowed to hire any member of their wives, husbands, partners, cousins, etc?

They should be assisted instead by civil servants - able to carry out all secretarial duties without huge expense to the taxpayers of our country. And ifs also time for an independent inquiry into all these dubious expenses that allow these politicians to boost their income and if found guilty they should be sacked and also lose their index linked gold plated pensions.

Remember this is the same Labour government who have for 12 years not restored the index linked pensions for genuine pensioners who have paid into a system. And it was their election promise to do so.

REGARDING the picture of the police car based at one end of the High Level Bridge presumably waiting for offenders.

I must ask the question is this the best way to use police resources or should there instead be security cameras on this bridge. Further, as someone's previously suggested all that is required is for the first offender caught to have his vehicle taken off him and fined pounds 5000 - surely we do not need a police car standing there waiting to find a culprit. There are far better things we could employ our police to do than this mundane job. …
