GAINESVILLE - After defensive tackles John Brown and Torrey Davis left the UF football program a little more than two weeks ago, it became obvious the Gators had lost some depth on their defensive line.

So now, behind starting tackles Terron Sanders and Lawrence Marsh, Florida has a ragtag group that's competing for playing time this spring, and they've played well so far. Coach Urban Meyer said redshirt freshman end Earl Okine still "has a long way to go" but has shown improvement.

"His body looks like a million dollars," Meyer said. "He just as to play a little better than he is now. I thought he'd be a Jarvis Moss-type end, but he just keeps growing and growing. He's up to 280 pounds, benching 400, and he's not done growing either."

Also, sophomore Omar Hunter - after coming in as arguably the prize of last year's recruiting class as Rivals.com's No. 2-rated tackle - is in contention for playing time after struggling with back and ankle injuries his freshman year. …
