Campaign Tells Drink Drivers: 'Don't Risk It'

A CRUCIAL window to turn around the Sunshine Coast's reputation as home to Queensland's highest number of drink drivers is being targeted by police.

It was all business when police from general duties and crime prevention units visited several of the region's pubs and clubs over the weekend, as they quietly left a definitive message on patron's cars.

Sunshine Coast police acting chief superintendent Ben Hanbidge said it was hoped the "Don't risk it" fliers campaign would successfully impact that window of opportunity of maintaining people's "best intentions".

"We have one of the worst drink driver rates in the state," chief supt Hanbidge said.

"Last year there were 2600 people arrested in the state and between 35 and 45 arrested on a weekend.

"I don't think people are getting any better and we can see that by the number of high readings we are getting returned."
