GLADSTONE: A united community approach is being taken by Gladstone against drink-spiking.

A project launched today and titled A Community Initiative - Making Night Life Safer, is a combined police, regional council and business response to a major social issue.

"This is not a fix-it, not a be-all-and-end-all, and is not going to stop the risk of drink-spiking because the potential will always be there, but hopefully it will reduce it a bit," Detective Senior Constable Chris Lindsay of the Gladstone CIB said yesterday.

"While reducing the incidence of violent offences within the CBD we hope to influence people's awareness to reduce their own risks of being spiked," Detective Senior Constable Lindsay said.

The project had been a year in development. "Through awareness, we will be stressing that everyone should be ever vigilant to reduce their risk because the difficulty with drink-spiking is that people aren't often aware that they've been spiked until it's too late. …
