Springborg Pledges Power Shift to Regions

ROCKHAMPTON could become the headquarters of a number of state government departments if the Liberal National Party seizes power from Labor at the next election.

LNP leader Lawrence Springborg made the pledge to decentralise power away from Brisbane when he came to Rockhampton on Saturday to formally launch the newly merged party in Capricornia.

He told the faithful that if he became Premier he would oversee a shift of power and responsibility away from the capital and into the regions.

And he made a commitment to "fix the roads, fix the health crisis, put the correct environmentally friendly infrastructure in pace and give nurses and emergency workers an incentive to stay."

Mr Springborg addressed some of the party's 350 Rockhampton members at the Leichhardt Hotel on Saturday evening after paying a visit to Pinefest in Yeppoon.

He said while he was at the coast he had taken a look at Yeppoon Hospital under construction and bemoaned the reduction in beds in the region since Labor came to power. …
