$200M for Rocky Airport? No Sale, Says the Mayor; We're under No Pressure to Cash In

EVEN the lure of a potential $200 million-plus payday wasn't tempting Rockhampton Regional Council mayor Brad Carter to change his mind yesterday.

Speaking in light of this week's sale of Mackay Airport for $208 million, Cr Carter said the council wouldn't reconsider any time soon its decision to hold onto the city's airport.

The Queensland Government sold Mackay Airport to help fund the new Mackay Hospital development.

In April when the state government first announced it would sell the facility, Rockhampton Regional Council and the community was resolute in its opposition to selling this region's airport after a passionate public debate.

Rockhampton's situation is different to other areas because the council owns the airport.

Both Rockhampton and Mackay airports were valued between $60 million and $70 million back in April.

"We were pretty firm in our decision not to sell it then," Cr Carter said yesterday. …
