Canadian Coach Puts CQ's Young Riders, Coaches over the Jumps

EQUESTRIAN: It's a long way from British Columbia to Gracemere for Canadian coach Jody Sloper but local experts are already claiming her visit as an outstanding success.

Zone 27 chairman Ian Price said Sloper would carry out coaching classes throughout the weekend and also on Monday at Austadium. Today and Monday she would work with school students and over the weekend run sessions for the coaching of other coaches.

But why would Australia be hosting a Canadian equestrian coach?

The answer to that is the improving performances of Canadian teams at the Beijing Olympic games where they picked up gold in the individual and silver in the team showjumping.

Regional director Lyn Coombes has organised the coach's itinerary while she is in Queensland.

Price said the experience of Sloper guaranteed she was able to pass on a great range of knowledge.

"I think her speciality is the showjumping," Price said.

"She coaches a full range and trains all levels (of rider). …
