'Realisation' Hits Home; Artist Returns Home to Gladstone to Share Passion with Students

SHE grew up in Gladstone, moved to Brisbane to study but has followed the beaten track back home to share her passion of art with local high school students.

It is a passion which saw local lass Krystie Smoothy unveil her first solo art exhibition "Realisation" on Friday, November 21 to the eager eyes of the local art community.

Daunted by her "very own" first exhibition, the nervous high school art and media teacher said she hoped it would be the start of more exhibitions to come down the track.

Her exhibition, currently on display in the Tondoon Botanic Gardens Art Gallery, looks at the principles of Taoism, the ying and yang, and how two forces come together.

There are four primary pieces, oil paintings, which look at what happens when changes are made to the balance of ying and yang.

The four pieces represent the different emotions of love, conflict, separation and the main piece, harmony.

"The works are a figurative study of the male and female," Krystie said. …
