Federer expects setbacks for Hewitt

MELBOURNE: Roger Federer has underscored the hurdles Lleyton Hewitt faces in his bid to return to the form which earned him Wimbledon and US Open glory.

As Hewitt recovers from hip surgery and declares he wants a place in tennis' top 10 again, Federer emphasised the major hiccups he could expect along the way.

The Swiss star, who next week will begin his Australian Open campaign in a bid to equal Pete Sampras all-time record of 14 grand slam titles, said Hewitt could expect setbacks - but his experience would be a bonus.

Warner on standby for Clark

MELBOURNE: Australia will assess vice-captain Michael Clarke at training today to determine if he has overcome a thumb injury.

Clarke yesterday underwent scans on the ligament damage he suffered while fielding in the first Test against South Africa in Perth, and will join his teammates today in a bid to play in tomorrow's first one-day international.

His NSW teammate David Warner, who starred in the first Twenty20 match on Sunday, is on standby with the squad in case Clarke is ruled out of the first match. …
