THE Go Girl series powered ahead this year with local riders Kiani King and Krystal Sowter among the season leaders.

With the season even bigger for 2009, things look bright for the local pair.

Both Gladstone girls ride the 85cc bikes, King in the 12- to 16-year-olds and Sowter in the 9- to 12-year-olds.

While they don't mind mixing it up with the boys in local meets they relished the chance to get out and race with other girls.

"Feels good to beat the boys, but it's really good that there are girls-only races... it is fairer because boys have more strength, well some of them," Sowter said.

Both said they have had a lot more confidence since riding the Go Girls Competition, which comprises of riders from all around the Queensland region.

Over 170 riders took part in the Go Girls competition, with both saying the racing was fierce and highly competitive.

The competition was run over three rounds, the first in Gladstone, the second in Goondiwindi and the third round in Tivoli Raceway. …
