IT has been a long time since the Rydges (formerly the Country Plaza International) and the Metro were built in Gladstone to introduce multi-unit development in the city heart.

That may be all about to change with a number of such developments now lodged in some form or another with Gladstone Regional Council.

Here is a list of some of the projects under construction or proposed for the CBD:

* The $8million Quest Serviced apartments will key out to 63 units if necessary. With only a few weeks for completion they will be the first to open its doors. When completed it would have a staff of eight to 10 permanents and casuals to look after the complex.

* Not far behind is Quarterback's six story residential project comprising about 40 units in Lord Street.

It will have commercial space on the ground floor and up-market residential units on the upper five levels.

* Late last year work was expected to start on the 96-room Grand Hotel tower behind the existing Grand Hotel. …
