Bulls Not Rebuilding Claims Simpson

THERE is a new captain, a new coach and a new-look line-up - but don't tell rookie Queensland skipper Chris Simpson that the once mighty Bulls are in a rebuilding phase.

Well, it won't be used as an excuse.

Simpson may be the fifth-choice Queensland allrounder but this season he finds himself stepping into the big shoes left behind by retired Bulls skipper Jimmy Maher.

The unheralded Simpson, 26, takes over the reigns of a Queensland side trying to bounce back from their wooden spoon 2007-08 season - their worst result in 55 years.

Besides Maher's departure, the Bulls will also be without retired seamer Michael Kasprowicz while fellow veteran quick Andy Bichel is taking his recovery from shoulder surgery "week by week".

Alongside new coach Trevor Barsby, Simpson will take on one of the biggest challenges thrown at a Bulls team in decades.

But the surprise availability of Andrew Symonds, Ashley Noffke and James Hopes for the start of the domestic season means Queensland will have no excuses in 2008-09, according to Simpson. …
