Lessons Learned from Past Proves Valuable

MT Larcom teacher Tiffany Vernon has witnessed her students undergo a mass enlightenment recently after helping them participate in the 'Our Priceless Past' project.

Tiffany teaches the Year 8, 9 and 10 Mt Larcom students Social Studies and English and has done so since 2004.

All the students in her classes were asked to participate as well as some of the Year 7 class captains and members of the student council.

For those unfamiliar with the program, Our Priceless Past involves students pairing up and interviewing a retiree about their life and adventures.

They are then asked to write up a story about the individual that is then framed, presented to those individuals and put on display in the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum for all to see.

According to Tiffany, the whole exercise has been very beneficial to the students learning.

"They learn lessons on meeting deadlines and time management, interacting with people they don't know, organisation skills and team work," Tiffany explained. …
