THE drivers' championship may seem almost a foregone conclusion, but there is heaps of excitement guaranteed for the final round of the V8 Supercars season which will also see Sydney's Oran Park Raceway farewelled in grand style later this week.

The NRMA Motoring Services Grand Finale will be held from tomorrow through to Sunday and will feature four days of pulsating action, highlighted by the three V8 Supercars races.

It will be game over early in the V8's title chase if Ford top gun Jamie Whincup manages to maintain the form and consistency he has shown in winning the last four rounds and nine out of 10 races.

He only has to amass another 67 points to grab the trophy with both hands.

But anyone who follows motor sport knows anything can, and sometimes does, happen so until at least the first race is done and dusted. Ford's Mark Winterbottom is not yet out of the equation.

Frosty is down 233 points on Whincup's 3208 after the last round at Symmons Plains.

Current title holder Garth Tander is Holden's strong hope for third, ahead of Ford drivers Craig Lowndes and Will Davison.

There will be also be several other classes of motor racing action over the four days, with most interest in the V8 Utes and the Fujitsu V8 Supercars series for up and coming young drivers.

There is not much joy for Holden fans in the ute series either, with Ford's Layton Crambrook on 632, ahead of another Ford driver Kim Jane and Holden's Grant Johnson almost 100 points down.

However, this is a series with lots of prangs, which is what the fans seem to like, so stay tuned for a final result.

Strategy will also come into play in the Fujitsu series, with Steve Owen's Commodore holding a strong lead over Dean Canto's Ford. Canto hopes to gain pole at the weekend and take the advantage through to the finish. …
