THERE are probably two months left of this year before we get into the political silly season where everything winds down. And there are some important things that need to happen in Mackay before political paralysis sets in over December and January.

The Labor Party was voted into Federal Government in November last year, so it is getting tantalisingly close to the time where the first year in office will be analysed and marks given.

People in Mackay and the seat of Dawson will have a view on the general performance of the Rudd Government but they will also have opinions on how this electorate has fared and how local member James Bidgood has performed.

People will remember there were a couple of key promises in the lead-up to last year's Federal election. There was a promise of $50 million for the widening of the Bruce Highway at Bakers Creek and another commitment of $8 million towards a new sports stadium.
