Airlie Police Swat Up on Schoolies Week Service

YEAR 12 students were jumping for joy as they sprinted into the cool saltwater at Mackay Harbour Beach yesterday.

For St Patrick's College students it has become a tradition to swim in their uniforms as the water washes over them, as they celebrated finishing 12 years of schooling.

This weekend more than 2500 seniors will go to Airlie Beach for Schoolies Week.

Whitsunday Regional Council community development and project manager Bruce Green said the week's events would kick off on Sunday at Schoolies Central, where schoolies can register from 9.30am.

Mr Green said schoolies had to register otherwise they would not be allowed to take part in organised events. Registered students would be given photographic identification, which would allow access to all events.

Mr Green said there would be trips to the reef and islands as well as beach volleyball competitions.

There will be themed parties every night of the week at Magnums Hotel. …
