Moore Park Relief at New Kiosk Lease

"AT last things are moving in the right direction."

Moore Park Progress Association secretary Peter Donlan has breathed a sigh of relief at news the long-empty kiosk will soon house a new tenant.

Many residents were left without a shop in walking distance after the convenience store and ice-creamery closed a year ago.

Frustrations rose as the former Burnett Shire Council called for tenders to lease the kiosk in September last year, which resulted in three applicants, but the process did not get any further prior to amalgamation.

In August, Bundaberg Regional Council called for expressions of interest to rent or lease the kiosk, and applicant Marlene Egan was accepted at Tuesday's meeting.

"It's the convenience for people around here, and it's important for tourism as well," Mr Donlan said.

"A lot of people who live around there haven't got vehicles, so they can walk there now."

The kiosk will stock convenience lines, milk, newspapers, stamps, ice, and bait tackle, as well as refreshments and hot food for dine-in or take-away. …
