McKeown Back into Top Form for Buccs

RUGBY UNION: Almost four months after fracturing his eye socket in an ugly rugby league incident, Brendon McKeown has returned to the football field to guide East Coast Buccaneers to their first Spring Cup win.

McKeown scored a try and kicked three goals in his side's 40-nil demolition of NewsMail Cup winners Isis Internationals at Across The Waves Sport Complex on Friday night.

His heroics come four months after doctors told him not to participate in contact sport until 2009 following a high tackle involving Brothers front-rower Michael Morris.

Morris was found guilty of a reckless high tackle in round nine of the Bundaberg Rugby League season for making contact with McKeown's head - leaving the winger with a fracture to his orbital socket.

The game also welcomed back Buccaneers captain Stuart Milowski, who returned to the game after a knee reconstruction three months ago.

Like McKeown, Milowski was fit ahead of time - back into rugby union five months before recommendation. …
