Intensive Care for Dominic as Fights Goes On

BUNDABERG boy Dominic Page was back in the intensive care unit (ICU) battling for his life on Boxing Day after the oxygen levels in his body fell to dangerously low levels.

The 20-month-old boy contracted meningococcal in October and has spent the past three months in Brisbane fighting the virus that spread through his fragile body.

Initially moved to a general ward just before Christmas, he was placed back in the ICU on a day many people spent celebrating with their families.

Sonny Page said his son spent a night in the critical care wing before being placed back in a general ward at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

"He back on the straight and narrow now, but he's not out of the woods yet," Mr Page said.

The virus that poisoned his blood last year has continued to cause problems in his right hand.

Dominic has already lost his legs, left arm and fingers to the virus.

"He went back into surgery yesterday to have a bit more of his left leg removed and his right hand had to be removed a little bit more," Mr Page said. …
