High Hope for Kids' Diet; Harold the Giraffe Is Serving Up Suggestions

HAROLD the Giraffe has broken free of the Life Education van this week to ensure his message that great nutrition can mean delicious eating gets direct to the people of Bundaberg.

To coincide with the school holidays and Nutrition Week, Harold and his group of helpers have been holding cooking classes at Sugarland Shoppingtown from 10am each day.

"We are promoting the concept that children can make healthy, easy snack for themselves," Life Education public relations and fundraising co-ordinator for Bundaberg Jacki Hartmann said.

Baked bean surprise and fruit salad was on the menu when the group set up their stall yesterday.

More than 40 children watched as chef Cheryl Thompson prepared the nutritious and easy snacks, aimed at teaching kids how to make smarter choices in the kitchen.

Harold's helper Shannon Fogarty said she believed the healthy eating message was getting through to kids.

"We had kids say they are really getting the whole two and five serves concept because it is really simple," Ms Fogarty said. …
