ONE of the biggest achievements a player can attain in the game of golf is shooting a score for 18 holes that is lower than your age.

Seven days ago Coffs Harbour member Noel Olive just missed out on the rare achievement by only a couple of weeks.

At the end of this month Olive will turn 70 and during last Thursday's competition round at the Coffs course, the four-handicapper managed to go around the West Lakes course shooting an even-par 69.

"I got a four on the 19th hole then birdied the next one and got a heap of pars then to turn one-over," Olive recalled of last week's round.

"I got a couple more pars then I birdied the third hole and I thought 'I'm square with the card here'."

Dreams of grandeur may have been dashed due to a double-bogey on the fifth hole but two birdies in the final four holes was enough for Olive to match his age. …
