Workers Line Up for Jab; Immunisers Make Rounds as Flu Season Approaches

THOUSANDS of Rockhampton workers are lining up to get the jab as the flu season approaches.

Clinical nurse manager for Community Health, Pamela Sikora, said Ozcare nurse immunisers were currently making their way around Rockhampton businesses giving flu vaccinations as part of their workplace flu vaccination program.

She said nurses would inoculate about 2500 staff against the influenza virus from March to May, to prepare for the winter season.

"We are stopping the flu spreading in the workplace which also prevents workers taking it home to their families," she said.

"It also reduces sick leave and absenteeism in the workplace which limits the disruption to staff performance and productivity."

The vaccination strengthens the immune system against the worst strain of the influenza virus which can cause severe symptoms such as muscle aches, fever, nausea and vomiting.

Pamela said it did not protect against the common cold. …
