LOCKYER Valley Regional Council is cashing in on more than half a million dollars for infrastructure throughout the region.

Twelve upgrade projects will refurbish existing recreational parks and install new facilities at others.

Mayor Steve Jones said the $661,000 in funding would benefit residents in the area and improve existing amenities.

"Obviously the money is a big help. However you look at times everywhere and they are pretty tough so every cent that comes in helps and this money will go a long way," Cr Jones said.

"There are a lot of places we have wanted to upgrade for some time now but we never had enough time or money in the budget to do it."

Cr Jones said a lot of places were in need of repair including play equipment at Lake Apex Park and Laidley's Lions Park.

"Some of the stuff at Lake Apex is a getting a bit shabby and we wanted to put in a few new things for the kids but the money just wasn't there," he said. …
