Colwyn Bay ...................................... 4 Newcastle Blue Star ........................ 1 INJURY-RAVAGED Newcastle Blue Star had only 12 fit players for their crucial UniBond League Division One North game at Colwyn Bay and, despite taking an early lead, crashed to a heavy defeat, writes MALCOLM PRATT.

Director of football Bob Morton has complained bitterly about the hectic end-of-season programme which will see the Tynesiders play another five games by a week come Saturday.

They are matches the Tynesiders need to take points from if they are to claim a play-off place and Morton and player-manager Steve Bowey will be hoping the injury crisis improves before the visit of Mossley to Kingston Park tomorrow night.

Blue Star, though, made a dream start at Colwyn Bay as Chris Emms struck after just seven minutes but from then on it was not to be their day.

In the 12th minute Darren Craddock had to be substituted by Andrew Wright and shortly afterwards Colwyn were awarded a hotly-disputed penalty but fortunately goalkeeper Jack Norton turned the spot-kick around the post. …
