Young People Set for the Sail of a Lifetime

AS Hartlepool celebrated the 500 day countdown to The Tall Ships Races 2010, 50 young people from some of the most deprived areas of the town are on course to be right at the heart of this spectacular event.

ORCEL Sea Training, based on the Owton Rossmere estate, is at the helm of the ambitious plan to recruit the race teams who'll sail as part of a fleet of up to 100 tall ships on the second and final leg from Kristiansand in Norway in August next year.

The organisation plans to book three local sail training vessels for the voyage of a lifetime.

Youngsters from ORCEL are buoyed up at the prospect of this seafaring adventure, saying they want to represent Hartlepool, to behave well and sail well so that they make everyone proud.

Glenys Thompson, chairwoman of ORCEL Sea Training said: "Preparing for a trip like this sets young people up for success rather than failure. It will give some the opportunity to turn their lives around by developing teamwork, confidence and respect. …
