Suns Win Game, Lose First Baseman; Fractured Thumb Likely to Keep Morrison out for Up to a Month

The Jacksonville Suns received timely hitting and solid pitching and recorded their first shutout of the season, a 2-0 triumph over the Tennessee Smokies in front of 6,095 on Monday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Off the field, the news wasn't as good for the Suns (3-2), who won the series with the Smokies (2-3).

Jacksonville first baseman Logan Morrison has a fractured thumb and will likely be out for up to a month. Morrison's glove hand collided with a Smokies runner in Friday's game. Morrison, 21, is one of the Florida Marlins' top prospects.

Suns manager Brandon Hyde said Morrison was to see a hand specialist in Jupiter on Monday. Morrison wasn't needed in Monday's game. Suns starting pitcher Cristhian Martinez allowed two singles and one walk in six innings. Three relievers combined to finish the shutout.
