EASTER brings with it the end of the sailing season for many members of the Port Curtis Sailing Club. The cooler weather and light breezes of the autumn and winter are ideal for cruising and many club members will take this opportunity to head north towards the Whitsundays to cruise in the pristine waters of the Barrier Reef. This time of year also enables maintenance work to be carried out on yachts, hulls will be cleaned and anti- fouled, dints mended and in some homes no doubt, Trade-a-Boat will feature on the coffee table again.

There are a few social races on the sailing calendar which will provide an opportunity for newcomers to the club to experience sailing in a fun and relaxed atmosphere: events such as the Three Island Race which is a yacht race combined with a running race, and the Yeppoon to Mackay Race. A new crop of keen young dinghy sailors will commence Learn to Sail in July. All juniors are assisted by an experienced buddy to show them the ropes. …
