What were you doing on February 24, 1998?

Judith McGrath was in front of a television, waiting for a brand new medical drama to make its debut appearance on television.

An impressive 462 episodes later she has eclipsed the number of appearances John Wood made in Blue Heelers and has done more than double the number of episodes Lisa McCune performed in her gold Logie award-winning role of Maggie Doyle.

"I have been there since the pilot, day one," she said.

"There has been the odd time when I thought 'I can't do this anymore, I just can't do it' but then it rolls over for a bit and you are back doing it.

"But it has been good."

The veteran actress has been entertaining Australian television audiences since the '60s and appeared in popular dramas like Prisoner, Neighbours and A Country Practice before becoming the only original member of the All Saints cast to still be with the show.

During her time with the show Judith and her character Von Ryan have gone through a vast number of fascinating storylines, but despite the fact it seems everyone at All Saints is having a relationship with someone else at All Saints, Von has managed to avoid a steamy love affair.

"There was one point when everybody on the ward was doing it like rabbits," she said.

"I remember going to the producers and saying 'don't you dare make Von have a love interest'.

"I thought there had to be one woman who isn't bonking in the place."

Judith's powerful wit and ability to deliver the most vitriolic lines has made her something of a legend in Australian drama.

Just ask her co-star Kip Gamblin. He is a massive fan of the actress.

"Judith is just a scream, she has the most fantastic sense of humour and I am so lucky that I get to work with her a lot," he said.

"She is so professional and she just gets it done."

But that isn't the only older female All Saints star he admires.
