Raiders' Women Prepared for Season Opener

TOOWOOMBA Women Raiders will finally get to put four months of training and preparation to the test when they line up tomorrow for their first 2009 Football Brisbane Premier League match.

Raiders will make their belated start to the season when they meet University Of Queensland at Commonwealth Oval.

The season kick-off comes two weeks after their opening competition match against Redlands United was washed out.

Reserve Grade coach Neil Thorpe has acted in a caretaker role for Raiders this week while the club's new A Grade coach Keren Thomas has been in Canberra in charge of the Queensland under 14 team.

Thorpe said following the anti-climactic start to the season the team is now keen to get on the paddock for its first official test of the year.

"The team has been training since January and they've had a number of trials including a couple against Premier League sides," Thorpe said. …
