A PLEASANT week for late April has seen anglers out in force, with most being well rewarded for their efforts. Dissington Pond has been fishing well with anglers catching ide, orfe and tench to 3lb, while the Broom fishery at Annan has also been in form with pleasure catches doing well and a 20lb 4oz mixed net winning the latest match for Mike Shaw.

Many excellent catches were reported from the Northern and Lower reservoirs at Whittle Dene again this week. A Hill caught over 8lb of roach and gudgeon, while P Storey landed 7lb of roach, as did B Mathieson. Wardens are reminding anglers to remember to sign out on the catch-return sheet.

On the Angel complex, some excellent fishing on all lakes has rewarded anglers and, on Bowes, Ian Dixon had carp into double figures for three nights in a row, with Paul Wood also taking large doubles, while Mark Smith took over 70 carp to 7lb. Lookout Lake had a busy week and Norman Eden 79 fish in a half-day session, while Anthony Longstaff, fishing up in the water, had a great day and even managed to catch a 3lb tench at 18in under the surface on maggot. Bassetts has produced ide, rudd, roach and orfe in excess of 2lb 10oz, and 10-year-old Joe Slater, from Westerhope, on his first fishing lesson with his dad caught his first carp.

The second round of the Whittle Dene Spring Series saw a clean sweep by the Browning Quaker visitors and winner of round one, Craig Hutchinson, made it two in a row. Fishing the pole with pinkie, Craig caught 82 roach for a 8lb 1oz total. Runner-up was Graham Jones with 7lb 5oz and his catch included some bonus skimmers, while third place went to Scott Lister with 7lb 4oz.

Blyth FAC's match on Sunday saw Gary Kislingbury win with 6lb, ahead of John Jackson with 5lb 14oz and Nigel Beardsley on 5lb 7oz.

Meanwhile, Sunday's match on Whins saw Mark Ainsworth win with a roach catch of 14lb 3oz ahead of Mal Miller with 9lb 11oz, while Barry Strand was third with 8lb 10oz. …
