THEY came from far and wide to celebrate 150 years of worship, witness and service in the Laidley region recently with more than 150 turning up to sing its praises.

Former and current worshippers and reverends of the Laidley Uniting Church visited Pioneer Village, celebrated over dinner and had services in both Hatton Vale and Laidley.

This year marks 150 years since the beginning of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational churches in the area.

In 1977 the churches formed the Uniting Church, but parishioners this year celebrated 150 years of the three denominations in the Laidley district.

People attending the celebrations were excited to visit the Slab Timber Cottage at the Laidley Pioneer Village, which was similar to the Shepherds Hut where the first Methodist service was conducted in 1858.

It no longer had a shingle roof but a camp oven was nearby.

Former Reverend Ellis Bramley, now 98 years old, attended the two-day festivities and regaled listeners with tales of the church's history and Laidley heritage. …
