NEWMARKET hosts day one of the stanjames.com Guineas Festival - and first blood can go to Ireland with John Oxx's Sea The Stars boasting an outstanding chance of Classic glory.

The 2000 Guineas has a distinctly open feel about it this year, with question marks against some of the market leaders in terms of ground or stamina.

Sea The Stars has already proved he goes a mile, though, and is bred to be a Classic winner, being by Cape Cross out of Arc winner Urban Sea.

That makes him a half-brother to Derby winner Galileo, and part of the family which includes such runners at Black Sam Bellamy, All Too Beautiful and My Typhoon.

Sea The Stars was a bit unlucky not to score on his racecourse bow, but he soon made amends in a Leopardstown maiden, beating subsequent Greenham winner Vocalised in the process.
