FOOTBALL: There were no complaints from Minniecon & Burke Capricorn Cougars coach Brad Smith as his team slumped to a 4-0 defeat against table-topping Olympic at Brisbane.

"It was disappointing but they are the best team we've come up against," Smith admitted.

Although the Cougars suffered a 3-0 defeat against Redlands in their previous game there had been many factors that influenced the result and the Cougars had been in with a chance until the final 15 minutes.

That was not the case against a very talented Olympic team.

"Really they controlled the game from start to finish," he said.

Smith said the match proved the gap between Rockhampton football and Hyundai QSL was massive and not one that talented young local players could bridge in just one or two seasons.

"When we played with confidence, that was when we matched them," Smith reported.

The injury that stopped team captain Roy Bob from travelling was also a telling factor in the battle for the midfield.

"Liam (Williams) and Tristan (Fraser) were out-manoeuvered," he reflected.

Bob links with his defenders from areas deep on the park and without him the Cougars lost shape and Olympic exploited the ground between the defensive line and midfielders.

The Cougars did manage to create a few chances with the most telling miss coming before Olympic opened its tally when, from a corner, a loose ball arrived at the feet of defender Brendan James who blasted it against the crossbar. …
