Newtown Salvages Draw with Premiers; Lions' 24-Point Fightback Stuns Valleys Side

NEWTOWN coach Barry Davidson has praised his team as they continued to establish themselves as the Houdinis of the Toowoomba Rugby League competition yesterday.

In a replay of last year's premiership decider, the Lions trailed 28-4 with 15 minutes left in the game, before fighting back for a 28-28 draw.

It was the second time this season they had come back from the death to steal a point, having performed a similar miracle in their round one clash against Gatton.

Davidson admitted his side had no right to come away with a point, but gave them credit for their fighting spirit, something the Lions coach has played an integral role in instilling at the club.

"We shouldn't have been in the game," Davidson said.

"We gave away too many penalties in the first half. For some reason there were too many penalties against us and you can't win without the football.

"I do give my boys credit though. …
