Bears Drop in to Take the Trophy; Town and Country Converge on Victoria Park for Tough Tennis Weekend

TENNIS: They just love competing in the annual Red Rooster Town and Country Team Tennis Carnival, with some of the regular winners getting their names on the trophies yet again.

Some of the team names might suggest they are less than serious but once the players hit the Victoria Park courts it's all on.

Local tennis guru Paul Bampton said the quality of tennis played during the three-day tournament was as high as ever.

"Everyone seems to peak at the right time of year," he said.

In the Men's A competition it was a familiar result with the Drop Bears taking away the title.

"They have won it for the fourth year in succession," Bampton said.

While the players are listed as being from Brisbane, Biloela and Emerald, Bampton said they were all well-known locally.

"They are all old Rockhampton and Gladstone players," he said.

The Drop Bears team of Matthew Koch, Lee Early, Glen Vickery, Ben Dawson and Peter Kamholtz were just a little too strong for the predominantly Rockhampton based Crocs team, winning the final 18-6. …
