Eco Pod Aims to Clean Up in Trial

A PIONEERING gadget that is designed to slash harmful emissions on trucks is to be trialled by a commercial fleet on Teesside.

Middlesbrough-based Re-Freshco's Eco Pod captures and recycles the energy released when a hydrogen rich fuel, such as diesel, reacts with oxygen, dramatically improving efficiency and cutting CO output from the exhaust.

Tonks Waste Recycling at Haverton Hill is the first to test the product which, if successful, could result in a pounds 1m deal with its parent company, Esh Group, said Refreshco MD Derek Foxcroft.

"The device can run with any fuel and be easily retro-fitted to vehicles within a couple of hours," he said.

"The average emissions reduction is 15% but some tests we've run it's as high as 26%..

"Provided there is also efficient driving, the device can save companies money. Tonks is a regional company with national connotations so there could be exciting opportunities if the trial is successful." Re-Freshco is also looking at marine and domestic market applications for its device - and has pledged to keep the majority of production in the North-east. …
