Launching Coal to Coast Festival

DALRYMPLE Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) was the perfect backdrop to launch the inaugural Coal to Coast Festival, which will be held from September 18 to 20.

DBCT community relations officer Andrew Garratt moved to Mackay nine months ago and saw there was a need for a festival that included aspects of the mining industry.

"There are a lot of mining events like QME that are very industrial but this will be about family fun and will include mine-verses-mine challenges," Mr Garratt said. "It is all about the mining industry giving back to the community."

The festival was Mr Garratt's brainchild and came to him after he moved here and realised how big the Bowen Basin was.

Mackay Regional councillor Dave Perkins said within five years the Coal to Coast Festival was hoped to be the number-one provincial festival in Australia.

Cr Perkins said the festival would be a celebration showcasing Sarina and would attract people from all over Queensland and interstate. …
