Q. I would like to freshen up my living room for spring but have a limited budget, is there a way I can achieve this? LESLEY says: Here are my top three tips to help you transform your home on a limited budget.

* Start with a good spring clean.

You can buy special cleaning sponges from DIY and hardware stores that are designed to remove stubborn marks and scuffs from paint work, they will even make good painted wall surfaces - but remember to always follow manufacturers instructions if you want the best from your products. Mostly you can make a real difference with warm soapy water and a bit of elbow grease, clean down curtain poles, ornaments and ledges. You will be amazed at how light and airy your room feels already.

* De-clutter, have a clear out and your living space will feel like new without spending a penny.

You may have to be ruthless but that doesn't mean throwing everything away, it just means a re-assessment of your space and storage. Take a refuse sack for items that can go straight in the bin and a separate one for charity. All the remaining items you want to keep can now be sorted into three categories, storage with instant access, storage with no immediate access e.g. loft and lastly display for the things you love to have on show.

* Rotate your accessories; this is the easiest way to inject some freshness into a room. We often become blind to the things we see every day. But by moving them around we can start to appreciate our treasures again.

You could decide to swap the ornaments from one room to another or collect together items with a strong colour connection to create a co-ordinated look, then pick out this colour with a few new cushions and candles to put some zing into your home.
