Learner Driver Given Bond after Blowing 0.198

A DRAKE learner driver who claims to be broke with an outstanding $25,000 MasterCard debt, walked out of Casino Local Court with a good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to high range drink driving - after crashing her car twice within 10 minutes.

Karen Faye Johnson, 32, pleaded guilty to driving with a blood/alcohol level of 0.198 at Patemans Road on January 12.

Johnson, who does not remember her crashes, also pleaded guilty to driving without the presence of a licensed driver.

Magistrate Jeff Linden convicted Johnson, then placed her on a 12-month good behaviour bond and disqualified her from driving for 18 months.

Mr Linden said a learner driving with no one accompanying her who had also been drinking alcohol was 'a bad combination'.

Police facts before the court state Johnson was driving toward the Bruxner Highway at 2.40pm when she crashed the car into an embankment.

A witness who came to her aid, said Johnson was 'extremely intoxicated' so he removed the car keys and hid them in the centre console. …
