WAS that a joke from Alan Sugar when he fired County Durham estate agent Philip Taylor? There was no outward sign, no glint in the eye, no hint of a smile.

But the bearded one might have had an inward chuckle when he said: "Philip, you certainly are a fiery person." Ho ho, ha ha, we knew what was coming next.

Sugar went on: "Your bravado and attitude isn't going to fit into my organisation. Philip, you're fired." So ends Philip's starring role in real-life business soap opera The Apprentice.

For weeks now, viewers have alternated between liking and hating the candidate.

He has certainly provided some memorable moments, whether it was flirting with Kate, his volatile relationship with Lorraine, or the invention of Pants Man.

His final hurrah lived up to expectations.

After taking a back-seat in the latest challenge to his arch enemy Lorraine, the team leader this week, it all went horribly wrong.
