Developers 'Sit on Land'; Councillor Calls for End to Industry's Spin

COUNCIL'S planning chief has bucketed the development industry, saying it would not be happy until it could do whatever it wanted with whatever land it owned.

Responding to the Urban Development Industry Association's submission to the South East Queensland Regional Plan, councillor Russell Green said he was tired of the industry's continued spin that council was bogging down the approval process.

Mr Green said there was a "bucket load" of land approved and ready if developers wanted to simply get on with it.

"The industry continues to claim, and I heard it again on the radio on the weekend, that this council is holding up the release of land," he said.

"This is the continued spin put out by developers. But if you drill right down into it, there is land ready to be developed and there is land waiting for infrastructure information from the developers before it will be approved.

"They are continually trying to short-circuit the process, but we will not seal the plans until the work has been done. …
