Course Aims to Get Students Fighting Fit for Employment

FROM this September, students at Redcar and Cleveland College will be drilled in the art of fitness instruction as the new foundation degree in Sports Coaching and Exercise is launched.

The course, which is delivered part-time, is aimed at people employed by, or looking to begin a career in, the sports and leisure industry. Students are expected to come from a variety of work roles in leisure and sports centres, schools, and private and public sector organisations as well as from voluntary and community organisations.

The programme will mean that the existing skills that students have at Level 3 will be raised to Level 4 and Level 5.

Tim Ward, course leader for the foundation degree in Sports Coaching and Exercise said: "The emphasis of the course is to develop the student's higher-level skills, knowledge and understanding and then apply them to the work environment.

"This is done through the completion of work-based assignments, undertaking laboratory practices and module reports. …
