Clermont Stages Biggest Meet in Years

RACING: Clermont's spacious Pepperina Park racecourse will be "bursting at the seams" tomorrow after some 42 horses accepted for what should be the biggest meeting staged at the Central Highlands centre in years.

Furthermore, it is cup day at Clermont and the Neville Thompson Memorial Clermont Cup (1400m) has attracted a quality field that would not be out of place at a provincial TAB race meeting.

The eight Clermont Cup starters, headed by Jyi's Prospect, hail from such centres as Thangool, Moranbah, Blackall, Mackay, Emerald and Barcaldine.

Another pleasing feature will be that 12 jockeys will ride at Clermont, thereby ensuring that all starters won't be short of riders.

"The jockey numbers are a real bonus," CRC secretary Kellie Bloxsom said yesterday.

CRC president Pat Dillon said townsfolk and those from nearby centres were really looking forward to Clermont's first race meeting of the year. …
