GLADSTONE'S hockey community put on a show for the Central Queensland community, hosting the Zone Championships at Rigby Park over the weekend.

Held in the Harbour City for the first time in six years, Gladstone made its claim to host more representative fixtures in the future, running a successful carnival.

With U11/ 13/ 15 teams from Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay and Moranbah travelling to the meet, Gladstone teams fared well with two sides making the finals.

The U15 girls side went through the first round undefeated to show off their skills, and faced Rockhampton in the final.

Likewise the U13 girls staked their claim to do well at the upcoming state championships, finishing second in their pool and meeting Mackay in the grand final.

The Gladstone U13 boys just missed out on a finals berth, finishing second in their pool and third overall.

The U11 boys proved to be the "surprise packet" of the carnival.

Playing in their first representative carnival, the boys finished equal second in their pool, missing the final by goal difference. …
